My 5 Favorite Walt Disney World Dining Meals/Desserts from my Last Trip.

When I go, I will eat tons of food, some old and some new, some hits and some misses. But every time I will come away with new favorites.

WAVE… of American Flavor in the Contemporary Resort, I have eaten at Wave several times, never having a bad meal. I never came away with that “Ohhhh my…That meal was amazing…” that all changed this visit. This meal was so good that we returned for a second time later in the week. Out of these visits, I came away with three out of the five to make the list.

1)BACON AND EGG at WAVE…OF AMERICAN FLAVOR

I wished this was an Entree, but unfortunately is only an appetizer, BACON AND EGGS. Sounds simple, but it is a twist on the breakfast staple. The Bacon is a Maple-lacquered Pork Belly. The egg, is known as a Perfect Egg.  A poached egg cooked to exactly 143 degrees, leaving a soft and creamy white outside and a warm liquid yolk that is like a warm custard. Upon cutting the outer white, the creamy egg coats the base of Tillamook Smoked Cheddar Grits. From first bite to last, your taste buds go from the sweet of the Pork Belly, to the creamy heartiness of the grits.  I savored every bite slowly, knowing as an appetizer, I only had 4 to 5 bites before the plate was complete.

If you eat at Wave, do not pass this when choosing an appetizer, for the other choices pale in comparison. To give an idea how good it was, the first night I forgot to take a picture, and I was looking forward to enjoying it the second night, yes I ate it before taking a picture. I apologize for not having a picture for you. I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO MAKE ANOTHER VISIT TO GET A PICTURE.

HOWEVER HERE IS MY EMPTY PLATE.

For the Main Course…

2)PORK TWO WAYS also at WAVE…OF AMERICAN FLAVOR

I must have been on a pork kick this night, but you can never get enough pork belly cause it is just bacon made even more delicious (if that is possible), and I have a hard time turning down pork tenderloin.

PORK TWO WAYS, hold on this gets complicated, two piece of pork cooked two different ways. Mind blowing I know. But I am the guy who ordered two pork dishes and didn’t realize it until the second one came out.

Two decent sized piece of Grilled Pork Tenderloin, juicy and tender and full of porcine tastiness. Every bite melts in your mouth. The 2nd pork selection, sliced Slow-Roasted Berkshire Pork Belly. I don’t know what they do to the pigs in the Berkshires but keep it up. The meat was fork cut tender with just the right amount of salty/sweet juicy fat, with a thin layer of char, enough for a slight crust to on the skin that melt in the mouth…

It’s the next part of the plate that even I am amazed at and a sign I truly loved the meal, the Spice Apple, Bourbon-Bacon Jam and Butternut Squash, I tend to be a low fruit and vegetable person when meat is on the plate, and sometime will say I am colorblind and can’t see greens. However these sides where sweet and tender and complemented the Two Porks perfectly enhancing each bite perfectly.

For Dessert…

3)Chocolate Flight again from WAVE…OF AMERICAN FLAVOR

Simply describe as A Trio of Petite Chocolate Deserts…a mousse with chocolate crisp bottom. The mousse was delicate tasty and sweet without an overpowering chocolate taste, and a tiny dollop of cream. Second is my personal favorite of the flite the chocolate peanut butter cake. A peanut butter cake was thick and rich, with the peanut butter frosting and chips complementing the rich chocolate cake. If this was a full size cake I would eat an entire cake and eat it shamelessly. Finally, a small Chocolate Hazelnut Cake, a soft sponge cake  bits of hazelnut. It was tasty but next time I will eat it first as the first too pack more of a flavor punch.

Now we move out of Wave and onto…

4)AFRICAN TRIPLE CHOCOLATE MOUSE AT SANAA

No visit of mine would be complete without a visit to Sanaa at Animal Kingdom Lodge-Kidani Village. I can eat here everyday if I had to, and have eaten here up to 3 or 4 time in a 2 week period. The Bread Service, Apps and Entree usually fill me up with , I never get to choose dessert, well not this time.

When it comes to some Disney Restaurant and dessert, for years it has been the same, my “go to” being the Chocolate Mousse cake with ganache and raspberry sauce accent, recently they and I have been spreading our wings, when it came to desserts and more and more restaurant have been offering a more diverse selection of desserts. What I chose at Sanaa is pretty much my past “go to” but with an African spin to it. Three layers Chocolate Mousse, the top layer is Ivoire White Chocolate Mousse with a few accents of berry jelly, in the middle layer a Jivara Milk Chocolate Mousse, followed by a Manjari 64% Dark Chocolate of Madagascar Mousse, and on the very bottom a crunchy Chocolate Biscuit. It was sweet and light as air, with a satisfying crunchy biscuit to complete each bite.

5)Oxtail Verrine at Monsier Paul

The next plate comes from Monsier Paul in the France Pavillion of Epcot. In the upcoming week I will post a review about our meal at what I will proudly consider my new favorite restaurant on property

Not being a “FANCY”eater, I sometime surprise myself by expanding my limits to things that the sound and description might have scared me away in the past, this final choice definitely re-enforces my thoughts to push my boundaries more often.

What is a Verrine

VERRINE, is a parfait and as we all know “EVERYBODY LIKES PARFAIT”. But unlike parfait dessert, it is a parfait appetizer with meat (Genius Idea, by the way). A delicious slow cooked shredded oxtail meat pudding is the base . Next comes a layer of smooth creamy mashed potatoes. The top layer is a puff pastry, not a soft pastry, a disc of pastry that is soft on the inside but crisp on the outside. As you dig in with the spoon, it cracks, smooth not crumbling so each spoonful is a serving of pastry, potato and meat. A tiny spoon serving of Parmesan Cheese Ice Cream, Yes Parmesan Cheese Ice Cream, just a small bit for a light bite of Parmesan sharpness with every taste.

For probably the first time in my life I found myself eating slowly with closed eyes to better appreciate each flavors, I savored every bite and took my time as not to rush eating, so I didn’t lose out on any enjoyment of flavor. I hope they start serving this for one of the many festivals that are held at Epcot.

So concludes my latest 5 best list. I leave you with this thought. Remember when you go to Disney, if just once during your visit find something new to try and enjoy. Look before you go and research something that is beyond your usually, because the Disney experience is more than just rides, it is about experiencing something new. Until then as always “I Will Do All the Work, So You Have All the Fun!!!”
