5 Best Treats I had for the First Time my Last Disney Trip

Read Time:6 Minute, 6 Second

Each Disney trip I make a list of all new snack, meals, or drinks that I want to try; some are old classic that I have never had for one reason or another (it was 20 years before I tried a Dole Whip), and then some are just new snacks added since my last visit.

This list is usually long and I am lucky to get through half of it, which is fine because then it is always an excuse to take another trip. The list is filled with joyous victory of flavor, but also the agony of tasteless defeat. I don’t like discussing the treats I don’t like, that just opens up a can of worms and anger from those who love the treat I am discussing, I am not here to debate why what you think is the best treat in the world, I might consider a waste of a few bucks, “To Each, His Own”…

Instead I like to mention a few of the treats I tried and like.

1. CITRUS SWIRL @ SUNSHINE TREE TERRACE

The Citrus Swirl which can be found at  SUNSHINE TREE TERRACE, just over the entry bridge into Adventureland in Magic Kingdom. Always a fan of soft serve, the Citrus Swirls is a blending of Vanilla Soft Serve and Orange Slush. The mixture of tart and sweet of the Orange Slush with the Vanilla Soft Serve, is a delightful snack during a warm day at the park.

This is perfect for just after lunch as you make your way to the more shaded Adventureland rides, just as you enter and feel the sheltering shade of the SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON TREEHOUSE, you stop grab one of these and relax and cool off for a few minutes.

At the time of writing, the Citrus Swirls is prices at $4.29, it is also avail able as an Ice Cream Float in Orange Soda (that is on the List for next trip…STAY TUNED)

These days everyone is flocking to Pandora, and then they all make their way to the shining star of Pandoran Eateries, SATU’LI CANTEEN.

So after exiting Flight of Passage, after a 23 hour wait, you are bound to be hungry so head on over to Satu’li Canteen for a meal, but take your time and don’t fall for the delicious trap of the deserts to quick, ,most people when ordering dessert at the Canteen will order the BLUEBERRY CREAM CHEESE MOUSSE, to be honest I did it too, it is amazingly colored and designed, it screams yummy yummy visually, but many will find it way to sweet or tart. If you are in that category be not vexed, instead get the Chocolate Cake.

The Chocolate Cake is a light chocolate cake with a banana cream, a slight lemon drizzle with Goji Berries. For those that are not banana fans (like myself) the banana is not strong and not distracting, I was not aware of the banana until reading the menu after. It is a smooth chocolate delight not to be missed.

The price of the cake at the time of writing, was $5.29, also skip the line as Satu’li Canteen is a mobile order location, we ordered our meal upon entering Animal Kingdom and receive our ORDER WAS READY text before crossing the first bridge.

3. Sweet and Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich

Within the Magic Kingdom tucked in a corner between Liberty Square and Cinderella Castle, sit SLEEPY HOLLOW REFRESHMENTS, for years this was the spot I headed for Funnel Cake and tended to ignore the other treats on the menu. This time after much discussion and many pictures on social media, I decided to try from the Waffle selection. After much struggling within my mind, I chose to not get the Nutella Waffle and instead went with the  Sweet and Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich, it was a long battle because I truly love anything Nutella. But to be honest the pictures of the Sweet and Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich, looked amazing.

Sweet and Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich disappeared from the menu a few years ago, but returned in 2016 with a few slight changes (no arugala) and actually made it more appealing by keeping it simple. To start they take a giant fresh made Belgian Waffle, then a nice portion of cole slaw, followed by a Deep Fried Chicken Breast coated in a sweet and spicy Asian sauce. (Thanks to the Cast Member, who either noticed my enthusiasm for the sandwich or my size) and rather than 1 piece gave me 2 generous pieces of chicken.

Not being a huge fan of cole slaw (actually anything vegetable) I was going to remove the cole slaw, but with the coaxing of my daughter and sons, they convinced me to keep it on for a few bites. The cool of the cole slaw and spicy of the Asian sauce complement each other and the sweet of the sauce brings everything together into a delicious sandwich/waffle. For those that are not spicy hot fans, the sauce is more on the low mild side of spicy so do not be discouraged, but have a cool drink near by if you tend to be very sensitive to spicy.

At time of post the  Sweet and Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich was $8.99, so another inexpensive and fulfilling treat.

4. Cheshire Cat Tail and 5.Minute Maid® Raspberry-Lemonade Slushy

The last two I will include together, they both come from the same location, Cheshire Cafe, just a short distance from the Mad Tea Party ride in Magic Kingdom, so it is perfect for those that have a hard time on the Tea Cup ride and choose to sit it out.  Both are simple and basic, but together (especially on a warm day) they make a satisfying and cool treat.

The Cheshire Cat Tail is a a pastry similar to that of a Chocolate Croissant, but straight not curved, similar pastries can be found at Animal Kingdom as well as in a small style throughout Walt Disney World breakfast buffets, but I have found the one served at the Cheshire Cafe to be flakier and more flavorful. It is drizzled with pink and purple frosting in homage to the Cheshire Cat.

The Minute Maid® Raspberry-Lemonade Slushy, this trip had to be my favorite slushy. The tart of the Lemonade and the Tang of the Raspberry Slush make a one-two punch to my taste buds.

Some might find sweet on sweet to be to much with the Cat Tail and then Slushy, but the savory of the Cat Tail on one side of the taste spectrum with the Sweet of the slushy on the other side of the spectrum make this combo, refreshing and a welcomed delight on a busy and warm day.

At the time of posting the Cat Tail was $4.99 and the Slushy was $4.29, so combine it is a snack and drink for less than $10 and I was able to share this, even though it was hard to do on my part, because it was so good.
